In these four workshops Alexia will break down the Primary Series and detail the actions that are necessary to advance mindfully and efficiently in your daily Ashtanga practice. She will emphasize the connections we can find from one asana to the next, illuminating the intelligence of the method. Learn precisely what lessons the basic postures offer to prepare you for the more complex forms later on.
In this class we will view the base that holds together the Ashtanga Yoga system (Tristhana Method, lineage and history) and will review Surya Namaskar in detail working on technique and traditional form.
The standing postures are the base to build a strong and grounded practice. We will go through some of the actions that help us create that so we can apply them from here into the rest of the sequence.
We will break down the transitions known as “Jump Throughs and Jump Backs” finding an appropriate version to work on individually and go through some of the most important seated asanas.
We will close this series of classes opening the front with backbends and viewing in detail the Closing postures, learning their calming value and benefits.
