Level 1: Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training
This training is perfect for yoga teachers, midwives, labor and delivery nurses, doulas and expectant moms (previous experience teaching yoga or a significant yoga practice is necessary). You will learn how to offer a safe, empowering prenatal yoga class. Specifically, you will learn ways to empower women during pregnancy, techniques to help mom connect with baby, safe modification of yoga poses for each trimester, anatomy during pregnancy, ways to introduce mindfulness techniques into a yoga class, pranayama exercises, prenatal yoga sequences and partner poses for pregnancy. You will learn about your own beliefs surrounding birth, learn from each other and learn from the stories of the hundred’s of births that Laurel has witnessed as a Labor Doula. We will practice teaching yoga and meditation, learn about the mind-body connection and how this effects pregnancy and birth and will learn about the latest evidence-based information related to pregnancy. This is one of the few Prenatal Yoga Schools registered by Yoga Alliance.

About Laurel Hicks, PhD, LMSW, E-RYT, RPYT, CLD:
Laurel has vast knowledge in pregnancy and infancy. She is an Experienced Prenatal Yoga Teacher, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Labor Doula. She holds a PhD in Social Work and Infant Mental Health and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at University of Denver working on research aimed at understanding the effects of depression in pregnancy on the mother as well as the infant’s development over the first 12 months of life. She is also considered an expert at integrating yoga and mindfulness in pregnancy and early parenthood. She has presented at international and national academic conferences, published in peer review journals and has a book chapter titled “Mindful Yoga in Pregnancy with Depressed Women” (set to be published late 2017).
She has practiced yoga since 1998 and has taught prenatal yoga to thousands of women of the past ten years, she has additionally taught prenatal yoga training since 2010 in both Canada and the US. She is trained in a variety of mindfulness-based interventions, including: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and utilizes both mindfulness and yoga with her psychotherapy clients. Laurel truly believes in the power of yoga and meditation and is passionate about not only increasing evidence of mind-body practices in pregnancy but also about spreading all the knowledge she has gained to her students. You will find that her mentorship does not end with this training, she and the other Mindful Mamas teachers continuously support one another in their own success.
