Level 2: Advanced Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training
The advanced training really begins to dive deeply into the mind-body connection and how yoga and mindfulness can aid mamas-to-be through the journey of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood You will learn how to grow your prenatal yoga business, specific mindfulness meditations for pregnancy and birth, ways that yoga may help specific ailments, common complications during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, how to integrate themes into a prenatal class, how to teach a mom and baby yoga class, fetal positioning, cesarian section recovery, and diastasis recti recovery.
What You Will Learn:
- Psychology and physiology of pregnancy, labour and birth
- Postures (Asana) to support a healthy pregnancy, modifications for each trimester, contraindications and posture sequencing
- Mindfulness techniques and integration methods
- Breath-work (Pranayama), vocal toning, partner work
- Relaxation and visualization techniques to help create a more positive and relaxed birth experience
- Birth choices and the culture of childbirth
- Prenatal Bonding, Fetal and Infant Development
- Laboring positions and birth preparation
- Postnatal/Mom & Baby Yoga class structure

About Laurel Hicks, PhD, LMSW, E-RYT, RPYT, CLD:
Laurel has vast knowledge in pregnancy and infancy. She is an Experienced Prenatal Yoga Teacher, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Labor Doula. She holds a PhD in Social Work and Infant Mental Health and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at University of Denver working on research aimed at understanding the effects of depression in pregnancy on the mother as well as the infant’s development over the first 12 months of life. She is also considered an expert at integrating yoga and mindfulness in pregnancy and early parenthood. She has presented at international and national academic conferences, published in peer review journals and has a book chapter titled “Mindful Yoga in Pregnancy with Depressed Women” (set to be published late 2017).
She has practiced yoga since 1998 and has taught prenatal yoga to thousands of women of the past ten years, she has additionally taught prenatal yoga training since 2010 in both Canada and the US. She is trained in a variety of mindfulness-based interventions, including: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and utilizes both mindfulness and yoga with her psychotherapy clients. Laurel truly believes in the power of yoga and meditation and is passionate about not only increasing evidence of mind-body practices in pregnancy but also about spreading all the knowledge she has gained to her students. You will find that her mentorship does not end with this training, she and the other Mindful Mamas teachers continuously support one another in their own success.
