Paul began practicing Iyengar yoga in 1995 while teaching middle school in the Chicago Public Schools. He found that the yoga helped to relieve some of the stress that came from teaching teenagers. After seven years of teaching, he decided he’d had enough and on a whim, got on a plane and flew to Thailand. While living in a small country village in the south of Thailand, he was introduced to the local form of massage as practiced by his host family. The younger people would massage the older people and the healthy would massage the injured. Fascinated by this massage and indulging in it often, he eventually traveled up to the northern city of Chaing Mai where he met Pichet Boonthamme, one of the living masters of Ancient Thai Massage. Two months and 240 hours of practice later, Paul left for the United States to share this amazing massage with everyone he could. In order to become a more well-rounded practitioner, he studied western-style massage at the Chicago School of Massage Therapy.
He graduated from there in December of 2001 and he has been practicing and teaching Thai massage ever since. Paul goes back to Thailand every year to spend time with his teacher and dive deeper into the practice. Paul is currently the director of Blue Lotus Thai Healing Studies in Chicago.
