Nancy Elizabeth
Nancy Elizabeth Garcés Méndez-Grabowsky began her yoga journey in 1999 at the Universal Yoga Studio, a Hatha Yoga house in Mexico City. After two years of dedicated practice, she transitioned to Kundalini Yoga, studying under internationally certified teachers Ady Kaur and Satara Singh at the Universal Yoga Studio near UNAM in Mexico City.
In 2002, she deepened her practice by learning Sat Nam Rassayan, a healing modality integrating mindful breathing and awareness, taught by Guru Dev Singh at Pranamami Yoga Studio in Coyoacán, Mexico City. The following year, she was invited to New Mexico for a special retreat, where she learned about Naam, the sacred sound of healing. In 2004, she initiated Kundalini Yoga for Youth in Mexico City and taught yoga at Casa de la Sal, where children recovering from cancer received her instruction. She also led yoga classes for homeless children in Mexico City.
Upon moving to Chicago, she continued her yoga journey, obtaining her 200hr RYT certification in Kundalini Yoga in 2008 through Spirit Raising Yoga, under the tutelage of Shakta Kaur and Shiva Singh, certified by the Kundalini Research Institute Foundation. In 2018, she earned her 200 hr RYT certification in Vinyasa Yoga and Ayurveda Principles from the Chicago Yoga Center with a focus on Astanga, where she studied with Suddha Weixler and Manju Jois. A year later, she received certification in Yoga for Youth from Heaven Meets Earth in Evanston, Illinois.
In addition to her regular classes, Nancy has hosted workshops on Restorative Yoga, Kabbalah Yoga, Yoga for Youth, and Yoga for Women. Currently, she offers private yoga and meditation sessions at her studio, where she encourages students to cultivate a personal practice and integrate yoga principles into their daily lives. Her teaching style blends Vinyasa flow, energetically based Hatha yoga, and restorative practices. She leads:
Vinyasa Yoga, focusing on fluid sequences of postures paired with mindful breathing at a moderate pace.
Candlelight Yoga and Neshamah Meditation, an Indian Jewish tradition of self-healing through heat and sound, aimed at strengthening the immune system and psyche.
Restorative Yoga and Neshamah Meditation, designed to relieve stress, restore energy, and bring mindfulness through breathwork and relaxation.
Nancy credits her family, community, students, and colleagues in both Mexico City and Chicago for their support.
Her personal motto: Yoga is a universal discipline, to cultivate beauty and nobility.
